From Ramses to Mount Sinai: The Road from Slavery to Sinai

This illuminated composition follows the Children of Israel from Ramses in Egypt to Mount Sinai, transforming the Exodus from a single event into a journey that can be followed with the eye.

The route recalls the departure from Egypt, Pharaoh’s pursuit, the Crossing of the Sea, the wilderness, the manna and finally Mount Sinai. The sea represents liberation, the wilderness uncertainty and dependence, and Sinai purpose.

The Exodus is therefore more than escape from slavery. The Children of Israel are moving toward Torah, covenant and a new identity as the people of Israel.

The many lines and details make the artwork function almost like a visual map, while the illumination gives the route additional depth.
