Israel, Center of the World: From the World to Jerusalem

From across the room, you see the world. Come closer, and the journey begins to move inward.

This illuminated artwork is inspired by an ancient Jewish vision in which geography becomes a spiritual journey: the world toward the Land of Israel, Israel toward Jerusalem, and Jerusalem toward the Beit HaMikdash.

The title is not intended as a claim about the center of a modern map. It expresses a much older Jewish idea about spiritual center, memory and orientation.

The closer you look, the more the world map breaks into smaller symbols, lines and layers. In the interactive experience, the viewer can continue toward the Beit HaMikdash, the Ark of the Covenant and the Menorah.

Illumination gives the fine engraved details additional depth and turns the piece into a focal point.
