The Lion of Judah: Israel at Its Heart

At first you see the Lion of Judah. Look closer, and an entire Jewish story is hidden within it.

The lion comes from Jacob’s blessing and became a symbol of leadership, kingship and the House of David. At the top appears the Beit HaMikdash, positioned almost like a crown and connecting Judah with Jerusalem.

Within the lion is the kinnor associated with King David, bringing music, prayer and the Psalms into the image. At the lion’s heart is the map of Eretz Israel, transforming the symbol of strength into a statement about land and belonging.

Around Judah appear the names and symbols of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. The central lion is therefore part of a larger family, not a figure standing alone.

When illuminated, the Temple, the harp, the map and the tribal details become easier to discover.

The Lion of Judah carries kingship on its crown, the music of David within its body, and the Land of Israel in its heart.
