Ephraim: Strength, Blessing, and the Legacy of Joseph

A powerful bull dominates the composition, surrounded by rich purple, luminous white and intricate stained-glass patterns.

Ephraim was one of Joseph’s two sons. When Jacob blessed Joseph’s children, he gave Ephraim a special place, crossing his hands and placing the greater blessing upon the younger brother.

In Moses’ blessing to Joseph, the imagery of the firstborn bull and its horns is connected with the descendants of Joseph, including Ephraim and Manasseh. The bull therefore expresses power, fruitfulness and blessing.
