The story behind the artwork

Gad · A story shaped by light

The Gad stained-glass work changes with the light throughout the day. Its color and symbol speak of steadfastness, brotherhood, and the strength of a united camp, allowing the story to become part of the room itself.

Three camp-like forms topped with banners stand against a green and turquoise field. They evoke the martial identity associated with Gad and Jacob’s blessing, “Raiders shall raid Gad, but he shall raid at their heels” (Genesis 49:19). Fine ornament within the shapes suggests organization, community, and motion. Green may evoke land and growth as an artistic reading; it should not be mistaken for a verified ancient tribal color. The Land of Israel is a shared motif throughout the Tribes collection. The stained-glass palette is an artistic choice, not the colors of the High Priest’s breastplate.
