The story behind the artwork

Reuben · A story shaped by light

The Reuben stained-glass work changes with the light throughout the day. Its color and symbol speak of beginnings, movement, and the courage to renew, allowing the story to become part of the room itself.

Turquoise and blue surround a structure with three rising peaks or banners and fine architectural detail. Dedicated to Jacob’s firstborn, Reuben, this work recalls the words “my might and the firstfruits of my strength” (Genesis 49:3). Its cool hues evoke depth and motion, while white reveals intricate patterning. The precise identity of the central motif is not certain from the image alone and should not be assigned a fixed biblical meaning without the artist’s explanation. The Land of Israel is a shared motif throughout the Tribes collection. The stained-glass palette is an artistic choice, not the colors of the High Priest’s breastplate.
